Win a SAYSKY race set: keeping up with Paul Schmidt

FACTS ABOUT PAUL THAT MAY OR MAY NOT AFFECT HIS FINISH TIME
  • Half marathon personal best: 64:58 (Berlin, 2015) under perfect climate conditions.
  • Marathon personal best: 2:19:35 (Rostock, 2015) with a 6pm start/26°C/normal humidity.
  • Half marathon seasonal best: 67:38 (Hannover, April) with 22°C and first sunny day of the year.
  • Marathon seasonal best: 2:20:38 (Düsseldorf, April) with 12°C sun and heavy rain in the end.
  • Injury prone season, with practically no running from May - October. Kept up the form with 120-240k of weekly bike commuting.
  • Started running again in the end of October (weekly 60-110k running), with the running being in a 6:30min/km pace together with his wife (who'll run her first half marathon on Barbados too).
  • 70% of the training were 16k morning running commutes.
  • Paul married his wife April 1, in Las Vegas after finishing THE SPEEDPROJECT with his crew. It's a 550k relay with 10 runners going from LA to Vegas.
  • Paul is testing heat adaptation training as the team doctor for the German national track and field team.
  • Most of Paul's stretching is done while waiting for the Berlin subway after an easy 5k post-work jog - or in the sauna or steam room, as it makes stretching faster and more efficient.
  • Paul does his yoga session from YouTube videos.
  • He uses all of his SAYSKY running shorts as bathing shorts too.
  • When Paul is on the move to do lectures that'll require him to get on the plane, he'll bike to the airport (and back again) with his hand luggage. This is the fastest way out of the city. Plus, it's an easy way to squeeze in a little bit of alternative endurance training.
  • Paul finished and won Barbados Marathon in 2:36:19 last year. The race started at 5am and ended up with 34°C.
